High Potential and Gifted Education
Tacoma Public Schools offers a range of high potential and gifted education opportunities designed to challenge and inspire students. These programs provide enriched learning experiences tailored to meet the unique needs of gifted and high-achieving students, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and advanced problem-solving skills.
Goldie Goal Getters
The Goldies Goal Getters program at Tacoma Public School is a unique morning initiative held in the library, designed to support students in reaching their individualised learning goals. This focused program provides a quiet, encouraging environment where students receive personalised guidance and resources to help them stay motivated and make steady progress. Goldies Goal Getters empowers students to take ownership of their learning and achieve success every day.
Cultural Groups
Tacoma Public School celebrates the richness of all cultures through our vibrant school cultural groups. A designated Aboriginal teacher leads weekly cultural sessions, fostering understanding, respect, and connection among students while honouring Indigenous traditions and heritage.
Creative and Performing Arts
Our school offers a variety of lunchtime programs to engage students in creative and performing arts. We proudly participate in the Central Coast Dance Festivals and Central Coast Schools' Showcase where our students consistently excel in auditions and performances. Additionally, our school choir and Koori choirs regularly showcase their talents at numerous events throughout the year including Central Coast Choral Festival and Ngara Awards of Excellence.
Sporting Activities
At Tacoma Public School, students have the chance to participate in interschool competitions and try out for representative sports teams. These opportunities encourage teamwork, skill development, and a love for physical activity in a supportive environment.
Chess
The Knights of Tacoma, our school chess team, proudly represent Tacoma Public School in interschool competitions. They develop strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and sportsmanship while competing against other schools. The team fosters a love for chess and offers students a fun and challenging way to grow their abilities.
Green Team
Our Green Team is passionate about caring for our veggie gardens, managing composting, and protecting the environment. Through hands-on activities, students learn about sustainability and teamwork while making a positive impact on our school community and the planet.
STEM
Our STEM Club offers exciting activities like 3D printing, coding, and robotics, sparking creativity and innovation among students. With access to new laptops, all students have the tools they need to explore science, technology, engineering, and maths in a hands-on and engaging way.
Student Parliament
Tacoma's School Parliament empowers all students by giving them a voice and valuable leadership opportunities. Through active participation, students develop confidence, responsibility, and the skills to make a positive impact within our school community.
LEGO League
Tacoma Public School proudly participates in the LEGO League, where students engage in exciting design challenges that boost creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. This hands-on experience inspires innovation and a passion for STEM learning.
The Resilience Project
Students at Tacoma Public School participate in weekly lessons from The Resilience Project, designed to support mental health and well-being. These sessions teach valuable skills like resilience, gratitude, and emotional awareness to help students thrive both in and out of the classroom.
